Detroit Pistons Should Be In Full Tank Mode

Drummond

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Pistons‘ season could be summed up in one game. Up by 25 points in the second quarter against the first place Indiana Pacers on their home court, the Pistons blew the lead and the game was sent into overtime after Paul George missed a game-winning shot attempt. Not to mention that the Pistons lost their best player, Andre Drummond, to a neck injury.

The Pistons went on to lose the game 112-104 in overtime, and Drummond is out for at least a few games. If this wasn’t a sign that the Pistons should just give up on their season, I don’t know what is.

Detroit currently sits six games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. With the Hawks playing well as of late and only 16 games remaining in the season, it is highly unlikely that the Pistons will make the playoffs.

And then there’s the NBA Draft.

Detroit gave up their 2014 draft pick to the Charlotte Bobcats in the Ben Gordon trade back in 2012. However, this pick is top eight protected, meaning that if the Pistons land a top eight pick in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft, they get to keep it. And with one of the best draft classes in recent memory coming in, it wouldn’t hurt for the team to give up on this season in hopes of improving the team for next year. Besides, the worse that the team does, the more ping pong balls they get in the lottery which could potentially land them the No. 1 pick. Although the odds aren’t in their favor, you never know what could happen in the lottery (see: Cleveland Cavaliers).

One thing is for sure, though: If the Pistons continue to win meaningless games, they will find themselves out of a potential franchise changing first round draft pick next season.

It’s time to save the pick.

Caldwell-Pope Emphatically Rejects LeBron

It isn't often we get to see someone completely own LeBron James on the basketball court. However, Detroit Pistons SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope got the best of 'King James' on Friday night, as he appeared out of thin air to emphatically reject James' shot from downtown.

Noel Emphatically Posterizes Drummond

With Jahlil Okafor out for the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons, Nerlens Noel had an opportunity to shine, and he took advantage. Noel makes Andre Drummond look feeble on this play, and that isn't an easy thing to do.
