Denver Nuggets’ Aaron Brooks Shines With Ty Lawson Sidelined
It has been reported recently that Ty Lawson is dealing with a whole set of new injuries. With Lawson sidelined, Aaron Brooks has been able to rise to the occasion for the Denver Nuggets.
On Wednesday night, Brooks led Denver to a 118-109 victory against the struggling Detroit Pistons. In the win, Brooks was the most productive player for the Nuggets. He had 27 points, 17 assists and six rebounds. This was truly a great double-double performance from Brooks, where he proved that he can lead the Nuggets to victory and be a dependable point guard.
Denver’s head coach, Brian Shaw, told media that Lawson hurt his groin in the Nuggets’ win against the Los Angeles Clippers. On Wednesday, he did not play due to a sinus infection. Denver should let Lawson rest and recover with Brooks playing so well at point guard.
Denver already lost backup point guard Nate Robinson for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. With Lawson and Robinson sidelined, Brooks is his last point guard on the Nuggets’ depth chart. His production is extremely important to Denver, and it should give Nuggets’ fans something to be happy about during a very tough season.
With their win against the Pistons, Denver got their fourth win in five games. Shaw has shown great belief in his team during his first year coaching. He has also told media that he is not surprised that the Nuggets have been defeating championship caliber teams; the team also beat the Miami Heat 111-107 on the 14th, where Brooks provided huge bench production.
Denver might not be making this year’s playoffs, but this young team is moving in the right direction, and Brooks’ performance on Wednesday should give Nuggets’ fans something to be happy about. I’m sure we will be seeing more performances like this from Brooks.
