Anthony Davis is going to be an NBA superstar, and so the New Orleans Pelicans have that going for them. They do not have the playoffs going for them this year, but it would not surprise me if Davis was named at least third team All NBA. Here are five things that the Pelicans can do this summer in order to better contend for the playoffs next season.
This is obviously their superstar of the future, and they must build around his skills in order to have any success. I would draft him almost every other young player in the league, and he has not even begun to peak as a talent quite yet.
As Davis' skill improves, then defenses will begin to crowd the lane even more. This will open up jump shots in the corner. If the Pelicans can take advantage of that with their roster choices, then they will be difficult to defend next season.
Don't you miss the Pistol Pete Maravich days? The New Orleans Jazz was probably the coolest team name in NBA history, and it is a shame that it now resides in Utah of all places. This needs to be rectified one day.
This goes back to the jump shooting a bit, but it also involves their perimeter defense. If they could put the same pressure on the three point line as they do in the paint, then this team would be a force to be reckoned with.
I remember when he was an absolute stud for the Clippers, but those days have come and gone. It might be time to scrap this project, because Davis needs some quality guards to run with if the Pelicans want to make the playoffs in the next couple years.
