It seems more often than not in the NBA that people are quick to label players as “busts.” If they are picked in or near the lottery and don’t perform almost immediately, their saddled with the disappointment of fans. However, there are several young players in the league right now that people have all but abandoned faith in that they probably shouldn’t just yet. Who are the top 10 that fit that bill?

10. Ed Davis

Ed Davis is just 24 years old and is somewhat buried in the Grizzlies’ rotation right now. However, the power forward has shown he can score and rebound at the NBA level in years past. Yes, he’s still not reliable defensively, but I don’t think we’ve heard the last from this guy who gets rare minutes in Memphis.

9. Brandon Knight

Arguably the biggest claim to fame for Brandon Knight in the NBA is that DeAndre Jordan absolutely destroyed him last season. However, Knight has quietly shown signs of life and real improvement with the Bucks this year. While that could be a product of his poor team, there could be meaningful moments ahead for the young guard.

8. Ben McLemore

He’s still in the middle of his rookie season, but people are already disappointed in what Ben McLemore has done in Sacramento this season. However, this guy is far too athletic and skilled to just fade into oblivion without a whimper. There’s still a ton of time to improve on his weaknesses and I’d suspect he has good days ahead in the Association.

7. Brandon Jennings

Watching Brandon Jennings is frustrating more often than not. He’ll show off great skill and then do a couple of bone-headed things. However, I still believe that in the right situation, with the right teammates and coach, that he’s far too talented to not have success in this league. He has his issues, but we’ve seen guys of this mold get corrected before.

6. Jordan Crawford

Jordan Crawford’s decision-making and over-aggressiveness is a problem. However, there are moments almost every time that he’s on the floor when you have to think that he could be a real contributor as a role player in this league. It’ll take the right situation, but it’s not time to lose faith just yet.

5. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

It’s only his second-year, but there are many who have already soured on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. While the Bobcats forward’s shooting motion is still a wreck, MKG is still a tenacious defender that can affect games on that end and has improved his shot-selection a great deal. Still incredibly young, Kidd-Gilchrist is showing improvement and should wind up being just fine.

4. DeMarcus Cousins

In terms of skill, no one has given up on DeMarcus Cousins. He might be the best offensive center in the league right now. However, people often question his attitude and mentality and for good reason. He’s taken baby steps this season, but there’s still a ways to go. With the Kings trying to change the culture in Sacramento, though, I think things will all work out with Cousins.

3. Larry Sanders

Larry Sanders’ 2013-14 season has been one to forget, be it because of bar fights, injuries, or ineffectiveness when he was on the floor. However, this guy is still quite young and has all of the physical tools to be at the very least a shut-down defender. If he can get a good culture built around him with the Bucks or wherever else he may land, this guy will have a positive future in this league.

2. Anthony Bennett

The ire surrounding Anthony Bennett in his rookie season has been warranted. He’s been awful, to say the least. The Cavs rookie has submitted a historically bad year and, just when he was improving a bit, he also got injured. However, this guy has talent and still hasn’t gotten in NBA shape for a number of reasons. Don’t give up on him based on one tumultuous season.

There’s nothing more frustrating to me than the fact that some team won’t take a chance on Jimmer Fredette and actually give him opportunities. I thought it’d happen with the Bulls, but it hasn’t. Yes, he’s a liability defensively and his ball-handling isn’t great, but there aren’t many guys that can provide what he can with his shooting. Given the right team and right role, Fredette could fill it up offensively in the NBA.
