Shaquille O’Neal is being accused of assaulting a co-worker at Turner Sports. What exactly happened is unclear, but the two sides seem pretty far apart.

Allegedly, O’Neal tackled Robert Williams to the ground, which resulted in ‘permanent’ injuries to his back.

Here’s what the Atlanta Police Department, who’s currently investigating the claim, had to say on the incident:

“(The co-worker) alleged Shaquille O’Neal tackled him to the ground causing injury to his back while they were at work at Turner Studios. I don’t know the extent of his injury, but I have heard that (it was serious) as well, that his injuries were severe to his back,” said Sgt. Greg Lyon.

Williams claims that O’Neal ‘tackle-punched’ him. Whatever that means?

We’ll have to see what the ATL PD has to say about this whole thing, but I’m inclined to side with Shaq’s camp. They’re calling the incident nothing more than ‘horseplay’.

Based on what we know about Shaq, he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would assault a co-worker. He’s all about joking around and having a good time. I could see him ‘horsing’ around and maybe getting a little physical as part of a rib, but to just flat out assault someone on the job — I don’t see it.

My guess is that Mr. Williams is just wants an out-of-court settlement. Whether his claim is legitimate or not, he’s still likely going to land a payday of some sort from the original Superman. That is, unless the ATL PD says his claim is hogwash.
