Is DeMarcus Cousins' R&B Album Real Or An Elaborate Prank?

He may play a hardhead on the court with the Sacramento Kings, but DeMarcus Cousins is a softie at heart. Cousins has managed to rein it in this season with his solid play, but now he’s looking to conquer a new arena: the world of R&B. Or is he? Well, that depends on who you ask.

I remain skeptical, but Cousins is apparently releasing an album under the alias ‘Boogie Smooth’. Stop your giggling right there even though it’s actually extremely hilarious. If this album is legit, then I for one cannot wait; but something still isn’t adding up.

The timing is suspect as it really is a day or two before April 1. The joke would definitely be on us if it’s a hoax, but if it’s actually true, then we’re in for a rare look into one of the more baffling minds in the NBA. And what would Cousins sound like? Can this guy actually sing?

This is only remotely interesting because we’re so accustomed to Cousins barking at referees and jaw-jacking with opposing players. And now he wants to try his hand at R&B? And what’s this ‘Boogie Smooth’ business?!

Judging by the cover art, Cousins is dead serious.

‘Boogie Smooth’ has released the first single off that project titled ‘Emotional’. The album will also feature critically-acclaimed MC Chance The Rapper and Maybach Music honcho Rick Ross, who assists on ‘Big Fellas’. The project also features Chase N Cashe.

If Cousins is half as serious about R&B as he is about getting double-doubles, then we’re in for a serious treat. But if we get the mercurial Cousins, this could turn ugly. Like Kobe Bryant the rapper ugly. Or Tony Parker ugly. So far, there is no release date for ‘Misunderstood’.

Hoax or not, I would definitely be game to hear the big man out. With the Kings’ season long decided, maybe Cousins can add some tour dates this offseason. Boogie Smooth live in concert? Who wouldn’t pay to see that?
