The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten hot as of late, and they could end up slipping into the playoffs. Realistically though? This is not a contender in the Western Conference; however, if they can make a couple moves that do not upset their overall team chemistry, then this team could be in the championship picture for years to come.
The beard part is kind of a joke, but the Marc Gasol part was not. We all saw what the Grizzlies were like without Gasol on the floor, and it was quite clear that they were not even a playoff team. And they certainly did not look like a team aiming at a championship.
Mike Conley Jr. has had a rough year shooting the ball, but that is likely to improve now that they have Gasol passing out of the pinch-post again. Look for this to get better as the season nears its end, but a shooting slump by Conley in the playoffs could get the Grizzlies bounced in the first round.
Mike Miller is a quality player, but this slideshow has more to do with what the Grizzlies can do in the future. He is not healthy enough to be a reliable factor for his team at the moment, and the Grizz would be better off finding a younger shooter to pair with Z-Bo and Gasol.
Can't you see this happening? I do not believe that Pau Gasol is still going to be an LA Laker next season, and if the Grizzlies can clear enough cap room then they could be looking like the Bluegrass version of the Spanish National team. Now all they have to do is trade for Ricky Rubio and plant him on the bench.
Not to be the head coach. Hollins probably enjoys his nice analyst position and has no interest in getting back involved with the crowded Western conference. His players probably just miss hearing what he is up to, so maybe they will give him a ring before the playoffs.
