The San Antonio Spurs' franchise record of 19 consecutive victories came out of nowhere and took the NBA by surprise. During the streak, the Spurs seemed unstoppable as they efficiently and effectively torched teams. Winning 19 games in a row is no easy task and defeating some of the teams they did is even harder to believe. Let's check out the five most important wins during the history-making win streak.
The Spurs' seventh consecutive win came against the gritty Chicago Bulls. The Bulls have been giving many teams trouble this year despite the absence of star Derrick Rose. But the Spurs were able to go into the United Center and bully the bully, no pun intended. San Antonio grabbed the 104-96 victory with little to no trouble at all.
The eighth consecutive win in the Spurs' streak came against the youthful Trail Blazers, who had given the Spurs some trouble earlier in the year. The Spurs protected their home floor against the likes of Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews by containing their perimeter play.
The win over the Denver Nuggets was significant for the Spurs because it showed their resiliency in tight games. The Nuggets are an energetic team that never gave up and fought back into the game, but the Spurs' veterans were able to make the big plays down the stretch to gain the victory.
At the time both teams were at the top of their respective conferences, but the Spurs were able to win the possible NBA Finals matchup with ease. The Pacers were dethroned from first place in the East due to the disheartening loss at the hands of San Antonio.
The fifth consecutive win during the streak came in the form of redemption for the Spurs. After the previous meeting in Miami that ended in a terrible loss, San Antonio bounced back and showed the defending champions they are not done yet with a 111-87 victory. It was the worst loss the Heat had received all season and created doubts about Miami's chances at a three-peat.
