Okay. I will admit up front that this slideshow could end up being dead wrong. Joel Embiid could be the number one pick in the draft and then go on to become Hakeem 2.0. Or one of these five reasons could cause him to slip out of the top tier picks. Either way you can bet that Kansas Jayhawk fans will be hoping and praying for a Myles Turner commitment now that their big man is heading to the big leagues.

This one was kind of a no-brainer. Embiid will have to prove himself at the combine and also with his individual team workouts. If he can show that his back fracture is a thing of the past, then he could go as high as number one in the draft. His injury could cause him to slip out of the top five, though, if it looks like it will affect him for the rest of his career.

You can bet that there will be a lot of doctors poking Embiid around in the next few months, and they will quickly determine whether his knee and back issues are going to be a recurring problem. It makes me think Embiid is going to slip even more when I think of medical redflags before the draft affecting the stock of players like Nerlens Noel and DeJuan Blair.

He has only been playing basketball for a few years, which, admittedly, could also help his draft stock in a certain way. Some general managers could question whether Embiid will be fully committed to the game in the future, but that is something that they will assess in their individual interview sessions.

2. Team Fit

This will be absolutely crucial. Plenty of NBA teams need a quality big man, but the way the lottery shakes out will definitely have an effect on who gets picked and where. I anticipate Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins going first and second in the draft; the picks after that are not quite clear, and it obviously depends somewhat on Embiid's medical situation.

Embiid obviously showed enough flashes of agility and skill around the rim to warrant getting drafted in the lottery this summer, but it just remains to be seen exactly what pick he lands on. One of my last concerns about Embiid has to do with playing with Andrew Wiggins this season. Wiggins obviously draws a lot of attention defensively, and I wonder whether the Kansas Jayhawks center's numbers got a bit inflated as a result.
