The Washington Wizards took the No. 5 spot in the East and will be taking on No. 4 seed Chicago in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. Washington has the better offense going into this series, but the Bulls have a solid defense and more playoff experience.

Read on to see the breakdown of this matchup.

If John Wall wants to be an elite point guard, now is the time to shine. His numbers are very impressive -- 19.4 points per game and 8.8 assists per game -- but it will be interesting to see how he does against Chicago’s D.

Kirk Hinrich is only averaging 9.1 points per game and 3.9 assists per game, but he has a lot of experience on his side.

SG Matchup: Jimmy Butler vs. Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal and John Wall make up a lethal scoring backcourt duo. Both guards are young and very talented to say the least.

Jimmy Butler is also young and he is putting up pretty good numbers this year (13.1 points per game). The key will be stopping Beal and Wall.

Butler, Hinrich and the rest of the Bulls are capable of limiting the two, though.

SF Matchup: Mike Dunleavy vs. Trevor Ariza

Mike Dunleavy has not had his best offensive performances against Washington this season. He is only averaging 8.3 points per game against the Wizards. Trevor Ariza has done even worse -- averaging 7.3 points per game -- but he did have a 16-point performance against Chicago this season.

PF Matchup: Carlos Boozer vs. Trevor Booker

Carlos Boozer definitely has Trevor Booker beat when it comes to points and rebounds. However, Booker doesn’t have to score 15+ points for Washington to win. On the other hand, Chicago will need Boozer to come up big in the scoring department.

C Matchup: Joakim Noah vs. Marcin Gortat

This is actually a really intriguing matchup, but Joakim Noah has been awesome this season. Who knows where the Bulls would be without their big man. I give Noah the nod in this matchup. How many centers can say they average 5.4 assists per game outside of Noah? Just saying.

Nene Hilario, D.J. Augustin and Taj Gibson are all going to play very important roles this series. I like Chicago’s bench for the simple fact that Augustin is the leading scorer on the team and he doesn’t even start. He is also the second leading assist man on the team.

Coaching Matchup: Tom Thibodeau vs. Randy Wittman

Tom Thibodeau is one of the best coaches in the NBA and he gets the most out of his players. Even with Derrick Rose going down with another injury and Luol Deng getting traded, the Bulls still managed to earn the No. 4 seed in the East.

Regular Season Series: Washington 2, Chicago 1

This series comes down to Chicago’s defense vs. Washington’s offense. The Wizards have some very talented players, but the Bulls play very tough D. They also have more playoff experience.
