The Los Angeles Lakers struggled this season, finishing 27-55, and will look to the offseason to quickly rebuild the team into a contender. They have salary-cap space, a lottery pick and players returning from injury which leads to optimism for next year. Here are five reasons why you should jump back on the Lakers' bandwagon this offseason.
With the majority of players on one-year contracts, the Lakers will likely have a completely different team next year. There is a sense of excitement in bringing in new players with potential, as anything can truly happen. There are plenty of good free-agents the Lakers can look to target to rebuild the roster.
The 2014 NBA Draft is stacked with talent, and the Lakers have the opportunity to own one of the top picks. Several players, such as Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker, are oozing with potential and could be a superstar of the future. If the Lakers decide to keep their pick, they could end up with a young talent to get the fans excited.
As much as fans criticize the Lakers management, they are not afraid to pull the trigger on a big trade. In recent years they have brought in Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard and almost traded for Chris Paul. With a high draft pick and cap space, the Lakers may not be patient enough to wait another season for a top free-agent. Don’t be surprised if the Lakers go all in for Kobe Bryant’s last two seasons.
Kobe Bryant was unable to play most of the season due to injury and has had to watch the Lakers suffer all season. He has vowed to come back as strong as ever, and a motivated Kobe puts fear into opponents. Fans love Kobe, and there is nothing better than watching him prove to everybody that he still has what it takes to be a star in the league.
The Lakers are one of the top brands in the whole world and are one of the most exciting teams to follow. This offseason will be filled with drama, unhappy players and big moves. The Lakers are always in the spotlight, whether it be for good reasons or bad ones. Jumping back on the bandwagon means that you’re in for an eventful summer.
