New York Knicks Rumors: Pau Gasol Interested in Reuniting With Phil Jackson
“I’m happy for him and the position that he got,” Gasol said. “I’m always going to be a big fan and a friend. I would listen.”
It is safe to say that Gasol is interested to play for the Knicks, but will Jackson plan on signing the 33-year-old center from Barcelona? After the recent acquisition of former Lakers forward Lamar Odom, it seems like the Knicks president of basketball operations is leaning toward a Hollywood reunion on Broadway. But will this veteran ensemble succeed in the Big Apple?
Regardless of Gasol’s future with the Knicks, he also informed the media that he may have played his last game for the Lakers.
“The last few years I’ve kept on my mind that this could be my last day here,” Gasol said. “‘Let me try to enjoy it. Let me try to make the best out of it.’ That has kind of been my mindset the last couple of years.”
Unfortunately, all great teams in the NBA end in sadness. The Lakers tried to regain the reputation of being the best of the west after the departure of Jackson. However, the deteriorating health of Kobe Bryant and numerous trade rumors involving Gasol are an example of championship winners being affected by father time.
Maybe it’s time for Gasol to move ahead and enjoy his future in the league, but moving to New York will only be more depressing considering the fact that this team isn’t built for the NBA title yet. Who knows what the future holds for the Knicks this summer. One thing is certain; they never fail to make the headlines during the offseason.
