The New Orleans Pelicans had a rough start to their new era, and injuries did not help the situation in the Big Easy. Now is the time to start making the proper adjustments to prepare for next year. Here are five questions the Pelicans must answer this offseason.

The Pelicans ranked in the high teens to mid-twenties in just about every defensive category this year. Finding a strong, starting center to help guard the paint with Anthony Davis may help reverse those numbers. Centers Jason Smith (missed most of the season), Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey are better coming off the bench. Smith was the starter and could very well be next year (he's good), but more athleticism and points down low would be nice.

The Pelicans were plagued with injuries this year; core players Jrue Holiday, Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith all missed most of the season. It's tough for any team to be productive when three starters are stuck on the bench. New Orleans definitely has the talent to go places, but staying healthy will be crucial.

3. Will Eric Gordon Return?

After missing a large portion of his first two seasons due to injury, Gordon was finally able to hang in there and play most of the year. Trade rumors have been surrounding the kid for a while now, but GM Dell Demps recently said he is happy with his core players and expects all of them to return. However, if another team is willing to take on Gordon's generous contract, I can see him in another uniform next season.

Williams is often criticized for his poor coaching: Fire Monty this, fire Monty that. However, he has not yet been able to coach a healthy squad for an entire year. Still, I need several pairs of hands to count the number of blown games due to improper second-half adjustments. GM Dell Demps and Mickey Loomis (head of basketball operations) seemed to be satisfied with the team's play at the end of the season, so a return is likely.

Pierre the Pelican underwent life-changing facial reconstructive surgery back in February. Before the procedure, he was having an extremely tough time socializing with fans, especially the younger ones, because of his terrorizing appearance. Pierre resembled the mask from the "Scream" movies. Well, the surgery was successful, his friend list is booming and he seems to be much more cheerful. That took guts, and we all hope he's happy.
