The New York Knicks fired head coach Mike Woodson after a disastrous season that saw the Knicks miss the playoffs in a putrid Eastern Conference. Even though his reputation has taken a hit over the past couple of years, there may still be some teams willing to take a chance on the veteran head coach.
This would take a miracle, but Scott Brooks doesn’t exactly have the best job security right now. If Brooks fails to make at least the Western Conference Finals with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, then heads may be ready to roll in OKC. Woodson could be a potential replacement in this scenario.
Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman seemed to almost give up midway during the season this year, and the Wolves limped to yet another disappointing season. The Wolves could be in need of a veteran coach who can get them over the playoff hump.
Mike Brown has proven himself to be a mediocre coach when LeBron James is not on his roster, and Cavs owner Dan Gilbert may be beginning to finally see that. Woodson could come in immediately and have this talented Cavaliers team fighting for a playoff spot in the terrible East.
Tyrone Corbin is most likely gone at this point, and Utah has some nice young pieces in Trey Burke and Gordon Hayward. They may want an experienced coach at the helm while these youngsters continue to develop.
Mike D'Antoni has been on borrowed time for a while now, and the Lakers may be ready to pull the plug on that experiment. Kobe would have to be on board, but Woodson could be a nice fit because of his experience coaching in big markets (Atlanta and New York).
