Rick Adelman is retiring after 23 long seasons in the NBA. He's one of the most underrated coaches of the modern era, and he certainly won't be easily replaced in Minnesota. But the times are no doubt a-changin' for the T-Wolves, who are coming up on a crucial season with Kevin Love's contract expiring.

Here's a look at five rumored candidates to fill the team's vacant head coaching position:

I'm sure the Wolves would love to have Izzo. Reports indicate that they're indeed interested in the MSU head coach, but I just can't see him leaving his cozy college job for this gig with a .500-ish franchise.

Just like Izzo, I'm sure Minnesota would love to have Hoiberg. He used to play for the T-Wolves and he'd be a great fit for the team on the sidelines. If he was at any other college besides his alma mater, I'd buy in a little more. But since The Mayor is Ames through and through, I don't think there's any chance he leaves Iowa State.

If the Timberwolves want to keep Kevin Love around, hiring Karl would be a great start. He's one of the best coaches in NBA history and he'd surely turn Minnesota into a playoff team. However, I don't buy him leaving ESPN quite yet. He will coach again, but I think he's waiting for a close-to-perfect situation.

If all else fails, hire the president of basketball operations, right? In this case, it wouldn't be the worst move. If Minnesota can't find a new guy to come in and spark the team, we all know that Saunders is capable of getting a team to the postseason. It's a fall back option, but it's there.

Donovan is rumored to be the top candidate for the T-Wolves vacant head coach position. But as with everyone else on this list -- will he want the job? He almost left for the NBA once before, so what would be different this time around?

It's possible that he's burnt out on college basketball after 20 long years. At the same time, there are a lot worse NBA jobs he could take. We'll have to wait and see what kind of money the T-Wolves offer him.
