With Donald Sterling now out of the picture, the Los Angeles Clippers are going to be sold. NBA commissioner Adam Silver dropped the hammer down on Sterling, banning him for life due to his racist comments. Sterling will also have to pay a $2.5 million fine.
Now the Clippers need a new owner, and who better to buy them than the legend Magic Johnson?
Johnson has ownership experience in the NBA and in MLB. He owned a stake in the Los Angeles Lakers at one point and now has part ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is one of the most beloved faces in the Los Angeles sports history and would be a great fit to own the Clippers. He is obviously a Lakers legend, but I believe he would be open to the challenge of owning the Clippers.
Oh, and let’s add to the fact that this would be a huge slap in the face to Sterling. If you have heard the tapes, Sterling mentions Johnson as one of the people in his girlfriend’s Instagram picture. Johnson tweeted after the tapes were released that he would not be attending any more Clippers games.
The Sterling situation is far from over. Expect Sterling to fight back and possibly take Silver’s decision to court. But either way, the Clippers will have a new owner at some point in the near future. If Johnson were to buy the team, he would be punching Sterling right below the belt.
