After witnessing the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs it’s clear that a lot of teams were cruising all regular season. It’s the nature of the beast in the NBA and very apparent this season. But on the positive side of things, fans have been treated to some of the best Association action in a long time.

The Brooklyn Nets are one team that seems to be getting it together at the right time. It took seven long games to knock off the youthful Toronto Raptors, but they finally got the job done. That of course means one thing — a date with the defending champs.

Brooklyn’s regular season success against the Miami Heat is well documented at this point. The Nets swept the Heat, winning all four regular season contests. The sweep was capped by a late game defensive stand where Mason Plumlee denied LeBron James at the rim in controversial fashion. Depending on who you root for, a foul should/shouldn’t have been called.

Regular season success is great, but everybody knows Miami doesn’t exactly crank things up until about May. LeBron and company may have very well been playing at 85 percent in those games.

When the Eastern Conference semi-finals tip off in a couple days, Miami will be as close to 100 percent as its been in a long time. After a week of rest it’s very safe to say that they’ll be ready for the veteran Nets.

But if you watched the Nets first round series with the Raptors, you know that they’ll be equally as ready for the defending champs. It’s going to be a hard fought series win for whichever team eventually earns it. There’s little chance it goes fewer than six games.

Many of the Nets key players are old, but their supporting is also underrated. Brooklyn has the size and experience to bother any team in these playoffs.

Miami should be favored to advance, but Brooklyn’s chances are definitely greater than puncher’s level.
