Mitch McGary Could be the Steal of the 2014 NBA Draft
Remember when Mitch McGary was dominating the paint in the 2013 NCAA tournament? Remember when he was supposed to be a pretty high draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft? Yeah, me too. McGary has not had the best year — back injury and suspended for marijuana — but he still has a lot of value and he could be the steal of this summer’s draft.
There are many NBA teams out there that are probably worried about McGary’s back, but I am expecting him to return to his old form.
McGary will more than likely not go in the lottery now, which means a team can get him much later than what his talent would suggest. This is good news for the one team that is willing to take a chance on him.
McGary may not be as talented as Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker, but he also plays a completely different type of game. McGary is one of the few prospects who is capable of dominating in the paint at the next level. He is strong, aggressive and is always ready to go.
Heck, even watching him on the sidelines this past season got me pumped up for Michigan games. Just imagine what he could do for a team when he is actually out on the court making plays.
He stands at 6-foot-10 and weighs 250 pounds. That is very dangerous given his skill level and his high-energy playing style.
It’s hard to be a major bust when a player is picked up in the second round. That is where McGary will likely go. I doubt a team takes a chance on him in the first round, but you never know. Regardless, McGary will get drafted and given the decline in his stock and ability to be a man in the paint, he could be the steal of the 2014 NBA Draft.
