Power forward Dirk Nowitzki will always hold a special place in the 30% of my heart that is devoted to basketball. That is because LeBron James never would have become the player that he is today, if it were not for the giant German. People are quick to forget the 2011 Finals, but I am certainly not.

Dirk’s career does seem to be fading into the sunset out in Dallas though, and it will be a bit depressing to watch the end of what has been a fantastic run. He has passed some big time names on the all-time scoring list this season, and he could end up in the top ten when it is all said and done.

He will go down as one of the best shooting big men in the history of the game, but ultimately it is Tim Duncan who will have the upper hand when we talk about the greatest to ever do it at the position. Dirk will still probably go down as the best international player to ever play basketball though, and that is fairly high praise.

As for Duncan, this could his final year of ball, and if he is able to get away with a title this season, then it would not surprise me to see the greatest power forward of all time hang up his sneakers for good. Let’s all settle in for round 2.
