2014 NBA Draft: Kentucky’s James Young Could Be Perfect Fit For Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are likely going to get a top-five pick in the 2014 NBA Draft after finishing the 2013 – 14 NBA season with a 25–57 record, but the team is going to need a lot more than one player if they are hoping to compete in the Eastern Conference and make it to the NBA Playoffs any time soon. Luckily, Boston has two lottery picks and should get to pick another talented player after their early pick.
For their second pick, the best option for the Celtics is none other than former Kentucky Wildcat, James Young.
Young is the type of player that can make his own shot and is excellent in transition. A lot of his points came off of opportunities where Julius Randle would get the ball down low and then throw it back out to him and he would drill the bucket. This process can be repeated with an elite NBA passer like Rajon Rondo and a talented big man like Jared Sullinger.
Not only does his style of play fit Boston, but his statistics look extremely bright as well. Averaging 14 points per game and around four rebounds per game, Young did a lot of extra work for a player that came into college being heralded as a scorer. If he could cut out his turnovers, he could become a staple in the NBA for a long time.
Young isn’t going to be the type of franchise player that Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Jabari Parker and Randle have the potential to be, but he’s a talented player that could make an immediate impact for Boston and, more importantly, take this team back into playoff contention sooner rather than later.
