Shaquille O’Neal does a little bit of everything these days. His main gig is of course working as an analyst on the popular show Inside the NBA on TNT. He also does nearly every commercial that’s pitched to him, including spots with Buick, Gold Bond and Icy Hot. In addition, he’s also a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings (aka Shaqramento).

But now Shaq can add children’s author to his long list of job titles. That’s right, the former NBA big man is set to release a series of children’s books starting in 2015.

“I am excited to be working with Bloomsbury on this project that will reach young, independent readers. Education is a cause that is very important to me and I love that this series will combine reading with my love of basketball. It’s a slam dunk for literacy!” O’Neal said in a statement.

The series will be called ‘Little Shaq’ and will feature stories from O’Neal’s childhood.

It’s great to see Shaq branch out like this. He’s a very smart guy and he’ll likely be a natural at writing children’s books. If there’s one thing the big fella knows, it’s how to entertain people. Hopefully that translates to kids books.

As for Shaq’s current gig on TNT, he’s right in the midst of another long playoff run for TNT. Some people can’t stand him as an analyst, but he’s really just there for comedic relief. If you want bland run-of-the-mill sports commentary, the Inside crew is definitely not for you.
