According to the latest Brooklyn Nets rumors, point guard Deron Williams wants out of Brooklyn, citing unhappiness. This is coming after the Nets lost in five games to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals and just two years removed from the mega five-year, $98.7 million contract he signed with the team to avoid free agency.

With the Nets massively over the luxury tax, the team should look to trade him. There may not be a team willing to take the rest of his contract on its budget, but if Brooklyn can strike the right deal and pick up some draft picks and key veteran pieces, Williams will be gone in an instant.

Brooklyn made a huge mistake signing Williams to a max contract. After what looked like a possible cornerstone to the franchise for the rest of his career, Williams is turning into an injury-prone cancer so much so that he is not even the team’s main point guard anymore; Shaun Livingston claimed that role from him at various points in the season.

Clearly the injuries have taken a toll on Williams and his morale in general. The team fell short of an Eastern Conference Finals berth, and if the pressure is getting to him, Brooklyn needs to make a move fast. If the Nets can recoup some picks for this year’s draft, it will be one of the best trades the franchise could make.

Moving the point guard is going to be a tough task, but it should still happen.
