Consistently one of the best players in the SEC for the last few seasons, the Florida Gators’ Patric Young is expected to be drafted in the second-round of the 2014 NBA Draft. Although not known for offense, his NBA physique, coupled with his exceptional defensive skills, will make him a hot target for many teams. Here are five NBA teams that could benefit from selecting Young.
The Mavericks are in a position to return to the NBA Playoffs once again next season, but need a go-to-guy and some depth at the center/power forward position. Picking Young late in the second-round could mean that they either get a steal of a starter or a back-up that could make an immediate impact for the team.
The 76ers have one-tenth of the picks in the 2014 NBA Draft and need players at nearly every position. Young could be a later second-round pick that gets quality minutes for this rebuilding Philadelphia squad.
Because the Bulls have a defensive star in Joakim Noah and Young is a defensive mastermind, Chicago could really bring out the best in Young. He could quickly become Noah’s go-to backup.
If there is anywhere on the floor the Lakers MUST improve, it is defensively. Unfortunately, they would have to make a trade in order to fall back into the second round and draft Young.
The Clippers have DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin doing work down-low, but could use some backup to come on to the floor and give them a break. Young could be the perfect fit to come in and work hard; he also has a similar body type to Griffin.
