The Golden State Warriors are experiencing some serious changes this offseason, starting with the firing of Mark Jackson and the hiring of Steve Kerr as the new head coach. Well, rumors are circulating that the Warriors are considering adding superstar big man Kevin Love in a possible offseason trade.
Who could the Warriors possibly get rid of in a potential trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves? According to multiple sources, Klay Thompson could be a potential trade component in a trade for the Timberwolves’ big man.
Reports are stating that Golden State is very hesitant to add Thompson to the deal, but they shouldn’t be.
I have nothing against Thompson, he’s a great shooter and a solid all-around player, but he’s not a franchise-changer like Love would be. Thompson can shoot threes, but doesn’t contribute as much in other areas of the game such as assists and rebounds.
On the other hand, you have Love who can shoot, score, pass and he’s one of the best rebounders in the NBA.
Sure, the Warriors would have to add something other than Thompson onto the deal — such as another role player and a draft pick or a couple of draft picks — but the reward is worth the risk.
Golden State would be losing 18.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game to go along with 41.7 percent three-point shooting but gaining 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 37.6 percent shooting from distance.
How good is that trade-off? Can’t get much better.
Thrown in some role players and a draft pick and the Warriors may have improved from a first-round contender to an NBA title contender with the addition of Love.
