As teams continue to bring potential prospects in for interviews and workouts, the Atlanta Hawks have another player on their radar. DeAndre Daniels out of the University of Connecticut will meet with the team today in order to show the Hawks why they need to consider taking him with either their first or second round pick.

He’s projected to go anywhere from the middle of the first round to the second, which means Atlanta might have to draft him with their 15th overall selection in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft. So, is Daniels worthy of a first round pick?

Well, if the NCAA tournament was any indication of what type of player he can be at the next level, the UConn product would definitely be a great option for the Hawks in the first round. Besides the fact that Daniels needs to put a little more meat on his bones, the forward possesses a unique skill set that could be instantly utilized in coach Mike Budenholzer’s offensive scheme.

He can shoot from anywhere and at a very efficient rate, which is something coach Bud loves to have on the floor at all times. Last year with the Huskies, Daniels averaged 13.1 points per game while shooting an exceptional 46.9 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the three-point line. In an Atlanta offense based around the ability to spread the floor and hit the open three, I can’t think of many players in this draft who would be a better fit than the Connecticut forward.

He would be the perfect guy to bring in off the bench to give the Hawks a necessary jolt on offense. Standing at 6-foot-9 as well, he will not only contribute on just offense either. Daniels is surprisingly a decent rebounder and defender despite his lack of strength.

He averaged 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game with the Huskies last season, which is why Atlanta has to consider taking him with their first round pick. Not many players in this draft have the skills he brings to the table, and if Daniels is there at 15, the Hawks have to take him.
