5 Ways to Fix the Chicago Bulls This Offseason

Although the Chicago Bulls put up one heck of a fight last season, their title hopes were squandered when they lost Derrick Rose for the season. This summer, the team's core of Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler will stay intact. With some minor tweaks to the roster, the team could become a legitimate championship contender again.

The Bulls' leading 3-point shooter last season was D.J. Augustin, and it is unlikely that he will return. The team as a whole was near the bottom of the league in 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage. The need could be addressed in the NBA Draft with one of the team's two first-round picks and also with the possibility of Jimmer Fredette returning in an increased role.

4. Improve the Bench

The Bulls' bench ranked No. 25 in minutes played at 15.1 per game and ranked No. 20 in average points scored at 29.7. The bench was so ineffective that Tom Thibodeau frequently only used a seven-man rotation, tiring out his starters, especially down the stretch and into the postseason. Butler averaged 38.7 minutes per game (tied for first in the NBA). Improving the bench will work wonders for the Bulls' heavy-minute players.

It appears the time has come for the Bulls to amnesty Carlos Boozer in order to make way for Taj Gibson in the starting lineup. Gibson was essentially a starter anyway, playing more minutes than Boozer and usually playing the entire fourth quarter. Bulls fans were frustrated with Boozer's lack of defense and disappearance during the course of a game.

After missing the entire 2012-13 season and only playing in 10 games last season, the Bulls are hopeful that they will finally have their franchise player back healthy this coming season. Rose will participate in Team USA's training camp in July, where fans will get their first glimpse at how far he has progressed.

The Bulls have made it no secret they are looking to add another piece to the puzzle to play alongside Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Who that player will be remains a mystery until free agency starts July 1, but Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love will certainly be in the mix.
