With the NBA free agency beginning in less than a month, there’s so much speculation as to where the top free agents will sign. One player in particular is Pau Gasol, who is sure to get plenty of attention this summer. Despite turning 34 years old on July 6, the big man still has plenty left in the tank to help a team contend in the playoffs. Here’s a look at five potential landing spots for the center.

Even if it seems unlikely, there’s no ruling out the Los Angeles Lakers as of yet. The Lakers have stated they would like to re-sign him and Gasol had made it clear that he would like to stay. However, it’s no secret that the team must get younger if it intends on contending in Kobe Bryant’s last few years. Not to mention, they can’t tie up too much money into another aging player. Only way it happens is on a shorter contract.

The Charlotte Hornets are another solid addition away from making some serious noise in the East. The combination of Al Jefferson and Gasol would be an intriguing duo that could do some serious damage within the conference. On top of that, the Hornets would be willing to pay him the money that he seeks, which other teams may not be as reluctant to do. It’s not too farfetched to believe Gasol would sign with the Hornets.

There’s a strong possibility that Gasol reunites with the Memphis Grizzlies. Playing alongside his brother Marc Gasol would bring chemistry to the team that could give them an edge in the Western Conference. The only way it happens is if Zach Randolph declines his player option for next season, which doesn’t seem likely considering the two sides are working on an extension. Regardless, the Gasol brothers playing together would be interesting.

Gasol has stated that the most important factor in his decision will be winning. He wants to play with a team that will give him the best chance to win another championship. Putting Gasol next to Tim Duncan in the frontcourt would be devastating for opponents. Not to mention, the addition of him would make the San Antonio Spurs instant favorites to win it all, regardless of what happens this postseason.

In my opinion, the team that will most likely sign Gasol is the Chicago Bulls. In order to do so, they will have to amnesty Carlos Boozer and sign Gasol to a discounted contract. But since Gasol has stated that money isn’t a top priority, it could definitely happen. His signing could attract other players, while it would give Derrick Rose another effective big man to work with. He could be the piece Chicago needs to go the distance next season.
