This article might anger any readers out in Dallas, but it must be done. Dirk Nowitzki should bolt from the Dallas Mavericks while he has the chance, and it is mainly because their championship window has closed. I know we all saw that Dirk could be the best player on a championship team in 2011, but the league has changed since then. And Dirk has too.

Rick Carlisle's coaching is what saved the Monta Ellis experiment from looking like a disaster, and I just do not see the playoffs happening next season for a team that leans on Vince Carter's jump shooting. Sorry, Vince. I loved you when you were with UNC, but it is just not there anymore. I was so happy to see that buzzer beater drop for Vinsanity, though. That was a beautiful basketball moment.

There would be no shortage of suitors for the 7-foot power forward, because his game has aged so gracefully. It is a different NBA from when the German first came over, and the emphasis on jump shooting has never been higher.

If you imagine Dirk on a team like the Chicago Bulls, then it would be easy to see them being in the title hunt. During these playoffs, the Mavs gave the Spurs a run for their money, but they were never seriously considered to be contenders.

Like him or not, Mark Cuban is one of the most competitive owners that we have in the league. And if Dirk explained to his boss that the team was no longer in title contention, then they might be able to work out an amicable exit.

This was more a lyrical exercise than anything else, because I think that Dirk will retire a Mav. He might look back on it all years later and regret it, but I just cannot see Cuban letting his superstar go. The owner has been quite vocal about that point. So it is not going to happen, which makes me a little bit sad for Dirk's championship legacy. At least he got one.
