The search for a new head coach is over for the New York Knicks as they have found their man. Derek Fisher, just a few weeks removed from playing in the NBA Playoffs, has officially been announced as the man who will do his very best to steer the Knicks back into a winning direction. Take a look at five reasons why he'll fix the Knicks.

Fisher has always been regarded as an excellent teammate who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. He looks like he'll be a player-friendly coach, and that will work extremely well if he can get players to rally for him. This will translate very well with the Knicks' core players, especially young up-and-comers like Tim Hardaway Jr.

Let's face it, most Knicks fans are bitter that Steve Kerr took his services elsewhere. There is no guarantee that a player-turned-coach will bring success to any team, but the unknown is very exciting to watch. Fisher will bring a new face, mentality, and overall much better philosophy to the entire Knicks organization.

Phil Jackson is a true professional basketball mastermind and has all the championship rings to back it up. The move to appoint Fisher as his new head coach is one that comes off as a calculated risk with potential for big rewards. Remember, Fisher is being brought in for the long term as it will take time for everything to come together. Jackson knows exactly what he's doing.

2. Build Around Tim Hardaway Jr.

Whether or not Carmelo Anthony stays with the Knicks, Fisher should definitely build around one of the brighter stars on the team, Tim Hardaway Jr. He's been a great player so far in his development, and he will only get better. Despite not having any draft picks this year, deals and trades must happen to give him a better supporting cast, especially if Anthony leaves for greener pastures.

Keep in mind that the Knicks are in a rebuilding mode and will be for at least the next two years. Don't expect much next season, especially if Melo leaves. It won't be until the Knicks get some draft picks, get rid of overpaid aging players, and start rebuilding with young stars that you can expect to see a contender on the court again. Don't worry though, Fisher will get to work promptly and things will get better in the long term!
