Led by John Wall, the Washington Wizards finished the 2013-14 NBA season with a record of 44-38 and earned the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards have made drastic improvements and now the Washington franchise is at a major turning point, looking for any way to continue building on their success. This article will examine the top five priorities for Washington this season to come back even stronger for the 2014-15 season.

This offseason, Washington will need to continue improving their bench. Drew Gooden, Al Harrington, Kevin Seraphin and Trevor Booker are all free agents. Andre Miller also has a million dollar buy out option. The Wizards need to figure out who they want to keep and who to let go. It would be nice seeing some more youth on the bench. For Washington to make a deeper playoff push next season, the Wizards need to upgrade their bench.

Otto Porter Jr. was drafted third overall in the 2013 NBA and has yet to see much playing time. He only averaged 8.6 minutes per game, with 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds. It is still a little early to declare him a "bust" but the Wizards need to develop a plan to get Porter more involved with the team. Whether it is sending him to the D-league or letting him go in a trade, the Wizards need to start seeing some worth from Porter.

3. Explore Free Agency

To continue improving, Washington needs to add strength and depth to their front court. Whether Ariza stays or goes elsewhere, the Wizards need to explore free agency. Luol Deng would be a great fit into Washington's front court. Washington was involved in trade rumors with the Cleveland Cavaliers before the trade deadline, but nothing panned out. Now that Deng is an unrestricted free agent, the Wizards have their chance to get him signed.

2. Figure Out What To Do With Trevor Ariza

Trevor Ariza is going to be a hot commodity during this offseason's free agency. Teams looking to rebuild or contend will be wanting to make an offer. For Washington, Ariza had one of the best seasons of his career. He averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The Wizards paid Ariza a little more than million during last season. Depending on how much he is looking to get, the Wizards need to decide if he is really worth the money.

Marcin Gortat was a very important piece to Washington's success during the 2013-14 season. He finished the year off with 13.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. Gortat was a double-double machine for the Wizards, racking up 37 during the season. Gortat was able to revive his career in Washington and is currently one of the best centers in the NBA. Without a doubt, re-signing Gortat is the top priority.
