With a lack of talent at the center position in the 2014 NBA Draft, many teams will have to be content with a power forward/center combo-player. One of these players is former LSU Tigers' star Johnny O'Bryant III; O'Bryant III dominated in college and will continue to do so in the NBA. Here are five teams that would benefit by selecting him in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The Oklahoma City Thunder need to start thinking long-term when it comes to backup center, and an explosive scorer like O’Bryant could be the perfect complement to Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka. If Perkins is no longer with the team next season, then O’Bryant could even be his replacement.
With so many picks in the 2014 NBA Draft, it’s hard to imagine a scenario that the Philadelphia 76ers don’t pick an SEC power forward/center. With Patric Young, Jarnell Stokes and Johnny O’Bryant III to choose from, O’Bryant would be a better selection, because he brings with him a blocking ability that neither Young nor Stokes possess.
The Los Angeles Clippers have Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and who? O’Bryant could be a clear backup while learning behind two of the best power forwards/centers in the NBA.
Even if the Minnesota Timberwolves decide to keep Kevin Love, Minnesota need some help down-low. O’Bryant could come into the squad as a rookie and play valuable minutes for the Timberwolves.
The Washington Wizards need a long-term backup for center Marcin Gortat, but could also use some help at the power forward position. O’Bryant could initially get playing time at either position, and could become a key player for Washington during his rookie season.
