Right now former Charlotte Hornet Boris Diaw is one game away from winning an NBA Title. Diaw has been one of the main ex factors for the San Antonio Spurs in the series against the Miami Heat. Diaw’s all around game has killed the Heat as he’s been a triple double threat almost every night. Where was this version of Diaw back when he was with the Hornets?

Back when Diaw first joined the Charlotte Hornets (then Bobcats) he played a huge role for the team as a versatile do-it-all power forward. Then the lockout season came around in 2011-12 and Diaw was terrible. He had gotten huge and seemed very disinterested as the Hornets were historically bad.

Diaw didn’t do much to help the Hornets back then and eventually was brought out of his contract and soon after joined the Spurs. Ever since Diaw became a Spur he’s been in shape and playing excellent basketball. If the Hornets had this version of Diaw then the team probably wouldn’t have been the worst team in NBA history during the 2011-12 season.

As a Hornets fan it has to be frustrating seeing Diaw play such good basketball for the Spurs. Diaw would have fit in perfectly with this past year’s Hornets squad and could have played the same role as Josh McRoberts as a point forward.

Diaw’s numbers haven’t been spectacular (about 9 points and 5 rebounds for both the season and playoffs) but the impact he has on the court is very evident. His passing, shooting and defense have been huge for the Spurs and now they’re one game away from being named NBA champs. The Hornets could have definitely used this guy.
