It was too great for the NBA to have the Raptors back in the playoffs this past season. Although the Eastern Conference was a wasteland, the Raptors are a young team on the rise. Expect 28-year-old point guard Kyle Lowry to be back, but here's what the Raptors need to do to get where they want to go.
Dwane Casey keeps getting these middle-of-the-pack coaching jobs, but he just can't get his teams over the hump. With the young, freakish talent the Raptors have, the team should drop Casey and find a coach who thinks outside the box.
In both Chicago and Los Angeles, Vinny Del Negro got a raw deal. He's a good coach and, with his creative way of incorporating multiple point guards into the offense, Del Negro would be a perfect fit for the point guard-rich Raptors.
Three 3-pointers a game? The Raptors need to discipline DeRozan because he's terrible from beyond the arc.
Tyler Ennis is the real deal and, with his insane passing skills, he would complement Kyle Lowry really nicely. Everything about Ennis screams Toronto, as the Raptors are the best at drafting point guards.
Vince Carter has said he wants to end his career where it all started. The Raptors also have to regret giving up on Shawn Marion so quickly. In order to win in the playoffs, an NBA team needs proven veterans. It does not get any better than these two. Vince Carter might be old, but he still has that 'Air Canada' bestiality. Shawn Marion has rediscovered his three-point shot and can stick anybody.
