Despite the fact that several NBA teams are in on the Kevin Love sweepstakes, it appears that the Golden State Warriors are the clear frontrunners to work out a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Even though several players have been mentioned in a possible deal, there is at least one combination in particular that has the Timberwolves very intrigued.
After the 2014-15 NBA season, the power forward will have the opportunity to opt out of his contract. Love has reportedly stated that he wants to stay in Minnesota, but there is no denying that he would like to play for a contender. For that reason, the Timberwolves are looking into all options while also trying to get the biggest bang for their buck.
The reason for that is the recent development in which Golden State has made shooting guard Klay Thompson available. For those of you who may not be aware, Thompson is a rising star in the making, especially after his career year this past season. His 18.4 points per game, 44.4 percent from the field, and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc could instantly take a team that is one or two pieces away and make them instant contenders next season.
On top of that, Golden State has reportedly considered packaging Thompson with forward David Lee and this year’s first round draft pick. If true, this deal is far too good for the Timberwolves to pass up, even if it means giving up Love.
At this point, it does not appear that any other team mentioned have come close to what Golden State can offer. That is why if Love is going anywhere it will be to the Warriors.
