NBA Draft Rumors: 5 Last-Minute Denver Nuggets Whispers

Denver Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly has gone on record saying that he wants to be aggressive this offseason. He is certainly living up to that promise so far, with the Nuggets seemingly in the discussion for nearly every big name out there, be it through trades, free agency or the NBA Draft. Here are some of the things you shouldn’t be surprised about come draft day.

Connelly is shopping his roster to anyone who will listen, and nobody is untouchable -- not even Ty Lawson. The Nuggets are going to be one of the busiest teams on draft night, fielding inquiries from numerous NBA teams, looking to move up or down. Don’t be surprised if Ty Lawson’s name gets thrown around in some of those discussions.

4. The Nuggets Don’t Like Gary Harris As Much As People Think

Countless NBA mock drafts have speculated that Gary Harris out of Michigan State will be the Nuggets pick at No. 11. He has been touted as the “safe” pick for the Nuggets, someone who can step in right away and contribute. I don’t think Connelly is interested in adding more unremarkable players to their roster. Masai Ujiri did enough of that for everyone.

This is one of the more absurd rumors I have heard this week. It has been reported that the Nuggets promised Saric they would pick him at 11, which is why he agreed to attend the ceremony and sit in the green room on draft night. First, no team would ever make such a harebrained promise. And two, even if they did make such a promise, that was certainly before he signed a three-year extension with his Turkish team.

It has been said all week that Chicago has expressed interest in packaging their draft picks and moving up to take Denver’s 11th pick. Don’t be shocked if Phoenix, Orlando and Boston have a similar idea since all three teams also have multiple first-round picks. The point is, the Nuggets are in a great position to wheel and deal.

1. The Nuggets Will Be Involved in a Blockbuster Deal

The Nuggets seem determined to make a splash on draft night. With so many suitors available, combined with their transparent desire to land a franchise-defining player, it almost seems like a foregone conclusion that a blockbuster deal will go down on Thursday night involving the Nuggets. Kenneth Faried appears to be the most attractive bargaining chip, but like I said before, nobody is safe.
