The internet is melting after LeBron James’ decision this morning to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat. The speculation has run rampant over the past two weeks regarding what his future would hold, and now that he’s headed for free agency, it’s only going to increase tenfold.

So how will his second free agency stint play out? Here are my five bold predictions for what to expect with James back on the market.

The Los Angeles Lakers will be serious players

The Lakers are already looking to unload Steve Nash’s contract this offseason, which would open up some significant cap space. If they can get that done, they’d have more than enough money to go after James. It’s uncertain how he and Kobe Bryant would click on the court, but the Lakers need to make a splash this offseason and landing the King would certainly do exactly that.

We all know about the top contenders for James’ services, but what about the wild card? There always has to be a wild card, and the Hornets will be it. Michael Jordan is rebranding his franchise and needs a face to help show fans the change is serious. While landing James might seem like a pipe dream, it would certainly give the Hornets an opportunity to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

James knows what “The Decision” did to his public perception, even though people fail to realize that the event was about far more than just him making a choice on his future team. The King is tired of getting so much flack for his hour-long special, and will opt to avoid the situation entirely this time around.

As great of a storyline as it is, the Cavaliers would be smart to avoid getting too involved in the LeBron sweepstakes. The franchise already suffered enough when James left the first time, and can’t afford to get its fans’ hopes up the second time around. Cleveland will give James an offer or two once free agency opens, but expect them to pull out quickly once they realize they aren’t seriously being considered.

Everyone is so busy clamoring about where James could potentially sign that they fail to realize that this could just be a move to help the Heat create more cap space. He’s clearly been successful since moving to South Beach, and his family is happy in Miami despite some recent Instagram posts. James will consider other options when free agency opens, but chances are he opts to stick with the Heat.
