LeBron James has opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat. Obviously, he's technically free to sign anywhere now. However, most basketball fans can see that there are only a few realistic landing spots for the BITW. Despite the limited amount of teams that make sense for him, people are still connecting the dots to put LBJ in Los Angeles next season with the Lakers.

Here are five reasons why LeBron James will never join the Lakers:

The bar is already set at GOAT for LeBron. The last thing he needs is to go to a team with an established legacy. L.A. would mean even more expectations for the King, as he would be playing in the shadows of greats like Magic, Kareem, Worthy and Shaq.

You may not agree with LeBron's career decisions so far, but at least he's carving out his own legacy. He can simply be the guy who left Cleveland and then won a bunch of titles in Miami if he chooses. Changing to a third team (especially a storied team like the Lakers), would further complicate his legacy. He should stick with Miami or go to a new team in need of a hero. Not one that already has many heroes.

The Lakers have things planned out for the next two years. Kind of. Heck, they don't even have a coach right now. It's a stretch to call them a mess, but there are certainly a lot more questions than answers in Laker Land at present time.

This reason alone will keep LeBron out of L.A. If you think he wants a piece of the flat out tougher Western Conference, you'd be wrong. His chances of going to the Finals each year would decrease significantly by signing with any WC team, especially the current day Lakers.

Kobe and LeBron on the same team? Talk about something that's just plain wrong. These two would never be able to coexist, nor should they. They're both trying to be the best at what they do, and with Kobe's competitive nature, there's no way he'd go for an LBJ partnership.

Above all else, Kobe's presence nixes any chance of LeBron taking his talents to Los Angeles.
