Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Meeting With Kobe Bryant Won’t Change Anything
As it turns out, there’s a chance that Carmelo Anthony could join the Los Angeles Lakers after all.
A couple months back I gave Melo-to-L.A. ‘zero’ chance of happening. But after the latest piece of gossip to hit the internet via Chris Broussard, you have to believe that the Lakers are at least a realistic landing spot for Melo this summer.
Melo returning 2day from Paris. Flying 2 LA. Sources say Kobe, n Europe 2, met w/him but Kobe denied it. Said he’ll meet w/Melo n future tho

So the two superstars may have already met up overseas, and it sounds like they’re definitely going to meet up in the future. Should Lakers fans be encouraged? Maybe a little.
I didn’t think things would even get to this point. Joining the Lakers still doesn’t make a ton of sense for Melo, but it’s understandable why he’s considering any and all options. It’s not often that you get to be one of the most sought after free agents in the NBA.
Anthony joining the Lakers would definitely help Kobe Bryant in some regards, but it’s hard to see where Melo would really benefit (except financially). If he’s serious about wanting to win a ring, there are far better places to do so right now. But apparently he wants to see what else the storied franchise does in free agency and the draft before he completely rules it out. That’s fair.
Above all else, though, it’s just hard to see two guys with high-scoring mentalities being able to co-exist.
