Don’t Expect LeBron James to Sign Anywhere Outside of the Miami Heat in Free Agency
Some were shocked, while others weren’t surprised at all. LeBron James opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat on Monday in order to test free agency. The move is an interesting one because every team in the league is going to throw an offer at him. However, when it’s all said and done, expect James to land right back in South Beach.
To leave the Heat behind would be a peculiar move that would not make much sense. The reason for that is because he has everything he could possibly need in Miami to continue winning championships. Leaving South Beach would allow James to lead a third team to the NBA Finals, which is something I cannot imagine any player has ever done. With that being said, the pressure would heighten with another franchise, where as in Miami he has already proven himself to be a winner.
At this point, it is a clear power move on James’ part. He is basically telling owner Micky Arison, team president Pat Riley and anyone else in the organization who cares to listen that he wants to see a maximum effort to surround him with the pieces to create a dynasty.
Remember, James was dominant in the playoffs. In fact, one could make the case that he posted the best postseason numbers of his career this year. It is widely known that James is not the reason why the Heat has stumbled in two of the four NBA Finals appearances. For that reason, the King would like to see a proper supporting cast that goes beyond the “Big Three.”
Speaking of the “Big Three,” Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are two huge reasons why James will return to Miami. It will be hard to find two other superstars who can work together to put forth a winning effort on a consistent basis. Despite losing to the San Antonio Spurs, the “Big Three” have shown that they can win at will. Sure, it would be nice if James had a legitimate center to play with, but the reality is Wade and Bosh are about as good as it is going to get.
Not only has James opted out, but also no one should be surprised to see Wade and Bosh follow suit. It is the only way the franchise will be able to financially give James and the rest of the team one more piece to the puzzle. If that happens, then expect the King to return to his throne and lead Miami to another title.
