The 2014 NBA Draft is only a day away and the New Orleans Pelicans still remain without a pick. After a disappointing year plagued with injuries, Monty Williams, Anthony Davis and company are looking to bounce back next season. With the big day approaching, let's take a look at five rumors that are surrounding the Bayou Birds at the moment.
Eric Gordon has been the topic of almost all discussion surrounding the New Orleans Pelicans. He’s been a bit of a disappointment, and the team has been looking to shop him around. However, it is rumored that a trade is becoming more and more unlikely. Why? Because nobody wants his outrageous contract. If he -- along with the rest of the team -- can stay healthy, big things could happen in the Crescent City next year.
There has been gossip buzzing around the Big Easy about a possible trade that would send PG Jrue Holiday to the Sacramento Kings for their No. 8 overall pick. However, that is rumored to be a rumor. Do the Pelicans have other plans for a point guard that they went out of their way to acquire only a year ago?
Despite the trade talks between the Pels and Detroit Pistons, it looks like they have decided to keep Greg Monroe around in the Motor City. The New Orleans native has been on the Pelicans' radar for some time now; adding a productive big man like Monroe would have been a hug step forward for the franchise. Just imagine him and Anthony Davis playing down low together. Nasty.
While New Orleans has been unsuccessful at landing a draft pick, it is rumored that GM Dell Demps is still doing all that he can to find a way into the first round. The Pelicans are without a pick this year because of the Jrue Holiday trade with the Philadelphia 76ers that took place during the 2013 selection process. Finding a way in would be crucial for the team's future.
If the Pelicans do find their way into the 2014 NBA Draft, it is rumored that they will target a big man to complement superstar power forward Anthony Davis down low. Small forward is also a team need, but drafting a center would certainly not hurt. New Orleans is much better off with Jason Smith, Alexis Ajinca and Jeff Withey coming off the bench.
