New Orleans Pelicans’ Anthony Davis Gets Help Down Low From Houston Rockets’ Omer Asik

omer asik trade

Kim Klement- USA Today Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans were presumed to pursue a big man in this year’s free agent market. Well, it looks like the Houston Rockets will be sending center Omer Asik to the Big Easy in exchange for a future first-round draft pick.

This looks to be a win-win situation for both sides of the agreement. The Pelicans were in need of some size to complement superstar power forward Anthony Davis down low. They remain without a pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and were rumored to be looking to trade into the first round. With the addition of Asik, that may no longer be the case.

For the Rockets, this move will help clear up cap space to help better their chances in either the LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. Asik provided solid anchor down low for Houston two years ago, averaging 10 points and 11 rebounds. However, he was bothered by health issues this past season, which caused a significant drop in his stat line — the acquisition of Dwight Howard did not help his numbers either.

After a year plagued with injuries, New Orleans will be looking to bounce back next season. Plugging Asik into the equation certainly increases their chances at making a playoff run in 2015. The question is, can the team stay healthy all season long?

Ryan Anderson Throws Down Savage Dunk On Kobe Bryant

The Mamba is in a retirement year, man, let him go out with his dignity still in tact.

Harden, Wade Ice Game For Their Team in Final Min

Two of the best shooting (if not the two best) guards in the game both put their clutch gene on display last night. Within a few minutes of each other, Dwyane Wade and then James Harden both hit step-back jumpers in the final minute of the 4th quarter that iced the game for their team.

Josh Smith Fakes Dirk Nowitzki Out of His Shoes

Josh Smith has returned to the Houston Rockets via trade, and he made the most of his first game back. He scored 16 points off the bench, including this drive on Dirk Nowitzki that made Smith look like Hakeem Olajuwon. Could Ty Lawson and Josh Smith be the spark duo off the bench that rejuvenates this Rockets team?
