Before their victory in the 2014 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs and their fans are known as old-school and boring. Since their five-game demolition of the Miami Heat, we’ve seen Spurs coach Gregg Popovich mock LeBron James’ “not one, not two, not three…” speech on the Riverwalk and now this billboard in South Texas that seemingly references Tim Duncan opting into the final year of his contract with the Spurs and LeBron opting out of the final two years of his deal with the Heat. There’s just one small problem.
LeBron is extremely likely to re-sign with the Heat for less money to give Miami team president Pat Riley more cap space with which to work this offseason. Of course, LeBron could bolt South Beach, which would make this billboard and a thousand other memes on the Internet valid (and funny), but if James does stay “loyal” to the Heat and take less money, the owner of this billboard will be looking pretty silly.
