Reports continue to surface that the 76ers would like to move up from the third overall pick and select Andrew Wiggins. However, if they stay where they are, Dante Exum is an intriguing option. Here are five reasons why it would be a risk for the team to select him.
As a result of him being an international player, it could take a few seasons for Exum to realize his full potential. The 76ers do have time to build a team, but they do not want to waste a pick on a player who may never pan out.
As a result of him being from Australia, scouts have limited tape and scouting reports on Exum. So, with all the positive attributes that are being discussed about him, there could easily be negative things out there that teams are unaware about at this point.
According to scouts, Exum’s most glaring weakness is his jump shot. He will need to improve this aspect of his game if he wants to turn into a star in the NBA.
Exum has a lot of playing experience under his belt, but he has never competed against top-level college talent. This could be a detriment as he prepares to take his game to the U.S.
While there is no denying the potential talent of Exum, he plays the same position as Carter-Williams. The comparisons do not stop there, as the way Exum plays the game is extremely similar to MCW.
