The 2014 NBA Draft has not officially concluded, but there have still been a few surprises so far. Andrew Wiggins — possibly the most talented prospect since LeBron James — going No. 1 overall shouldn’t have shocked anyone. Neither should have Jabari Parker going No. 2 or Joel Embiid going directly after. After that, though, some picks have definitely been in question. With that said, read on to see five surprises of the NBA Lottery.

Aaron Gordon is a solid player coming out of Arizona, but I am sure there are plenty of fans out there who could have seen someone else going at No. 4 overall. Gordon is freakishly athletic and can play great defense, but he definitely needs to improve in the scoring department.

Marcus Smart to the Celtics

Marcus Smart has a complete game, but he doesn’t necessarily do one thing really well. Regardless, he is easily one of the top point guards in the draft.

Rajon Rondo is still currently a Celtic, which makes the Smart pick at No. 6 somewhat surprising.

Elfrid Payton at No. 10

At this point in the draft, all of the BIG names were off of the board. So, there was bound to be a surprise or two. Elfrid Payton is a solid player and is one of the best point guards in the draft, but Philadelphia selected Michael Carter-Williams just a year ago. Carter-Williams is a point guard and was the Rookie of the Year. More on this pick later.

Doug McDermott was the best player in college basketball this past season. After all, he did lead the nation in scoring and won the Naismith. No matter what the case, this was the first trade of the day.

Back to the Elfrid Payton pick. The 76ers and Orlando Magic hooked up in a trade that sent Dario Saric to Philadelphia for Elfrid Payton. Although this isn’t the biggest trade in NBA draft history, trades are surprising no matter what the case.
