LeBron James: 5 Reasons Why Dallas Mavericks Must Sign the King

There are few teams better equipped to support LeBron James than the Dallas Mavericks. In spite of this fact, the Mavs are aren't a leading contender for the world's best player. If LBJ wants to win, here are five reasons he should take his talents to Dallas.

The Mavericks have nice pieces and a solid roster, but that isn’t enough to win in this league. Dallas superstar Dirk Nowitzki isn’t getting any younger and he wants to win now. Sure Vince Carter is a player I’d like on my team, but I wouldn’t expect him to be my second (or third) best player-- not if I wanted a contending team.

Dallas basketball isn’t vanilla or anything, but it’s time for a change in D-town. Multiple teams around the league have been collecting stars and potential stars, while the Mavs have consistently relied upon Dirk Nowitzki. Signing LeBron would bring new energy to the franchise, city and ball team.

The one weakness on this team is scoring from the wing. Shawn Marion isn’t the player he used to be, and he hasn’t ever had the skills of LBJ. LeBron would immediately fulfill one of the major needs on this team as well as complimenting some other areas (like playmaking and defense) well.

2. Rick Carlisle is a Great Coach

I know there will be hard feelings because Carlisle’s shifting 2-3 zone is what defeated the Heat in LBJ’s first year, but LeBron would be smart to join up with any of the coaches who defeated him in the biggest stage. Carlisle is so underrated that he won’t ever get enough credit for Dallas’ most recent championship. He swarmed the Heat’s stars and his methods made DeShawn Stevenson look like a star. Imagine what Carlisle could do with LeBron.

With LeBron at the wing, the only addition the Mavs would need would be frontcourt help with size and maybe an upgrade at point guard. LBJ has been known to play point-forward, so upgrading the point guard position isn’t a priority, but if King James wanted one he could get one. There are also plenty of big men who would take a pay cut to play in player-friendly Dallas on a LeBron-led team.
