After having a pretty good individual season with the Los Angeles Lakers, wingman Nick Young has opted out of his contract to become a free agent. While, realistically, many teams could use a guy like Young, the Charlotte Hornets are a team that should really make a play for Young as their new sixth man.
Young is the ideal sixth man for pretty much any team. He averaged 17.9 points last season coming off the bench. This guy comes in the game and gets buckets in bunches. He isn’t a star by any stretch, but can be the star player of a team’s second unit. Young is one of those guys who jacks up a lot of shots, sometimes making a lot and sometimes not. While with the Lakers, Young proved that he can run a second unit and be a main scoring threat.
The Hornets are a team that can use scoring, especially off of the bench. Young can come in immediately and play either wing spot off the bench. Young can score off the dribble, shoot lights out on occasions and isn’t afraid to take it to the rack as well. Even though Young isn’t much of a defender, he showed an effort on that end last season that could get him on the floor for Steve Clifford‘s club.
Young brings scoring, but he also brings a good aura with him as well. The man known as Swaggy P is a fun character in the NBA and is usually seen with a smile on his face. He puts up highlight plays and is liked by a lot of people. Charlotte can use a guy like that.
While guys like Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James are the type of guys every team wants, Young is a more realistic option for a team like the Hornets. Charlotte wouldn’t have to break the bank to get him and he could be a great addition to the offense. If the Hornets want some scoring off the bench, Nick Young is the guy to target.
