With the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics selected Marcus Smart out of Oklahoma State. Smart is an extremely talented point guard, but can also play as a shooting guard. Here are five ways he can help the Celtics next season and for years to come.

Smart doesn't back down from any challenge. He's quick, strong, can guard multiple positions and is willing to defend the opponent's best player. Aggressive defense is always welcomed in Boston.

For a rebuilding team, the Celtics do not have many youngsters on their roster. Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk were the only young players playing significant minutes. Smart and James Young add young energy that is certainly needed for a rebuilding team.

We've already mentioned the ability to defend multiple positions, but Smart also adds plenty of versatility on offense. He can play both guard positions and has the ability to create shots for himself as well as others. He runs the show at the point or scores off the wing. His versatility gives the Celtics plenty of options going forward.

2. Leadership

It won't be evident in his rookie season, but Smart has always been praised as a great leader on the court. Leadership is something the Celtics lack, as Rajon Rondo has shown he is not that type of player. Smart brings maturity and the mindset to lead the pack into battle each and every game.

The Celtics need a player who isn't afraid to take matters into his own hands and put the ball in the hoop. Smart relentlessly attacks the rim and doesn't back down on the offensive end. He has the ability to really fuel an entire offense. Smart was an excellent pick by Boston.
