Houston Rockets Rumors: Pitch to Carmelo Anthony Could Lure Him in Free Agency
There is no question that Carmelo Anthony is the biggest free agent fish in the free agent pond. I know LeBron James is a free agent too, but Carmelo is the biggest free agent who is actually projected to sign with another team.
One of those teams is the Houston Rockets, and sources close to the situation have leaked late Monday night about how the Rockets will pitch to Carmelo to join the team when he visits later this week. The Rockets have made their desires clear about trying to pursue Anthony, and the team is currently one of the leaders in the running to land the All-Star scorer.
The pitch plan leaked on Monday involves citing every player on the roster on the team that won 54 games last season. The Rockets will also use the same representatives that they used to lure Dwight Howard last summer. One of the noticeable changes in the plan involves replacing Chandler Parsons with Howard on the welcoming committee. This is a good move, considering that Parsons is a restricted free agent in his own right and that Howard will be a much more attractive centerpiece for Anthony.
The Rockets will also plan on utilizing their home-court advantage, giving Anthony a tour of the Toyota Center and showing him all of the upgrades the team is making to the arena. The Rockets will make their official pitch during a hotel dinner, where the team will stress to Anthony that he will be the final piece of the Rockets’ championship puzzle.
This is the same pitch the Rockets made to Howard last summer. Whether it will have the same effect on Anthony as it did on Howard remains to be seen, but judging from the pitch, the Rockets are going to pull out all the stops to get their man.
