The Dallas Mavericks could use a big signing during the free agency period. Landing a big player or not, at least Dirk Nowitzki is reportedly coming back to the team. Dirk smartly taking less money leaves the door open for the Mavericks to sign other players.
Dirk always likely to be first major free agent to decide. Sources say sides agreed today to three-year pact believed to be in $30M ballpark

I doubt Dallas will be able to sign Carmelo Anthony, but you never know. That option is still open and Dallas fans would definitely welcome him in.
Anthony is not the best defensive player in the world, but it is his offensive game that makes him so special. Anthony is easily one of the best scorers in the league and his 27.4 points per game this past season proves that. That didn’t really need to be proved, but I think you get the point — Melo knows how to put the ball into the hoop at a high rate.
I doubt the Mavericks will be able to compete for a title without a big addition this summer, but bringing back Nowitzki was the smart and obvious thing to do. He may be aging, but he is still one of the best players that this game has to offer.
Even if the team is not able to lure Melo to the team, Nowitzki’s deal makes it possible for the Mavericks to go after other great players, such as Chandler Parsons.
Who knows where Parsons will end up next season, but he would definitely make Dallas a much better team. The main goal is getting Anthony, but the Mavericks cannot afford to come up empty-handed.
