Pau Gasol and Julius Randle Would Fit Well Together With Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers have a huge offseason ahead of them as they look to fill out their roster and compete for a playoff spot. Pau Gasol is one of the top free-agents on their list, but it remains to be seen if he will re-sign with the team that has been trying to trade him for the last couple of years. The organization has gotten off to a good start by drafting a potential impact player in Julius Randle, who would actually fit very well playing next to Gasol.
Randle has the ability to be a very good player, and he could learn a lot from playing next to a guy like Gasol. Even as he gets older, Gasol remains one of the most skilled big men in the league, as well as arguably the best passer. His ability to shoot would give Randle space to operate on the low block while his ability to create could get Randle easy looks. Randle’s desire to bulldoze his way to the basket would be a nice complement to Gasol’s finesse moves, giving the team different options. Both players have the ability to work off of each other and don’t need to be in a set spot to be successful.
While neither is exceptionally athletic, the duo would be better on the defensive end than most would think. Gasol provides good length while Randle is strong enough to handle players one on one. Randle also possesses enough quickness to hedge effectively on screens as well as provide help on perimeter scorers. They would present an intimidating rebounding presence, combining Gasol’s size with Randle’s relentlessness.
If the Lakers are able to retain Gasol, then they could have a very good combination of big men for next season. Both players are extremely versatile and can operate from different positions on the floor offensively. They have a lot of skill between them and will give teams plenty of problems. Gasol’s positive leadership would also be invaluable to a player with as much potential as Randle. The team would have much to look forward to if they are able to re-sign Gasol.
